here is some information of up fef class
The Union Pacific FEF (4-8-4) series was a class of 45 steam locomotives built by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) for the Union Pacific Railroad:
- The FEF name comes from the locomotive's wheel arrangement, which is 4-8-4 in the Whyte notation. The locomotives were also known as the class 800s.
- The FEF series was divided into three classes: FEF-1, FEF-2, and FEF-3. The FEF-2 and FEF-3 classes had different driving axles and cylinder diameters than the FEF-1 class.
- The FEF locomotives were built to address the power limitations of the 4-8-2 locomotives that were common in the U.P. steam passenger fleet.
- The FEF locomotives were built between 1937 and 1944. They were converted from coal to fuel oil in 1945-46 due to coal supply issues following World War II.
